I'm Tere Hernández-Bonét and I am a Mexican American jewelry designer, metalsmith and artist. I am the creator and owner behind My Precious Studio.
I make jewelry for badasses.
I have always expressed myself visually and artistically. I was raised by artistic parents and I was always encouraged to create.
I earned my BFA in Jewelry and Light Metals from the Rhode Island School of Design, where I graduated with honors. I discovered jewelry as a career almost by accident, when my freshman foundation professor recommended it to me.
I was hooked from the start.
I moved to NYC after graduation and after working a crap job in the Diamond District doing subcontracting work for Paloma Picasso's line at Tiffany & Co, I found work as the head jeweler for an independent designer in SOHO.
I then started my own independent jewelry studio, My Precious Studio. I am personally involved in all aspects of my jewelry design, from original conception on paper to final execution in metal. I am a solo show here and do everything in studio, except for the actual metal casting. I work primarily in sterling silver and semi-precious stones. I also work in gold and I love working with copper.
I have a passion for bold, graphic pieces, with attention to details that are inspired by ancient cultures, natural elements, death and music. I especially enjoy creating memorial and mourning pieces.
I now live in Richmond, VA, where I share my jewelry studio with my fantastic rescue cats.
