My name is Tere Hernández-Bonét and I am the jewelry designer/metalsmith and owner of My Precious Studio. I grew up as part of a large family of artists where growing up "weird" was always considered the norm. Both parents are (and were) artists and I have some very talented siblings and extended family. I earned my BFA, with honors, from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where I studied Jewelry and Light Metals.
After graduating, I moved to NYC with some fellow grads where I started my career at a Diamond District job making Paloma Picasso jewelry for Tiffany & Co. After a year there, I left and became a jeweler's assistant at Clear Metals, an independent jewelry boutique in SoHo. I worked there for about 10 years. During that time, I also started creating my own jewelry line and eventually came up with my studio name around 1997. I met a lot of fantastic people in NYC, but a year after 9-11, my husband and I decided to leave. We ended up in Richmond, VA and love it. I've had my work sold in Betsey Johnson boutiques, featured in Lucky and on the cover of Bikini Magazines.
I'm inspired by a vast variety of things: cemeteries, reliquaries, objects and rituals for burial and mourning, memorials, churches, ancient cultures, nature, architectural elements, tattoo imagery, strong emotions, music and color. I don't really like to describe my work, but I will say that it appeals to creative minded people who love to express themselves.
You know who you are and I adore you!
